Artist of the Week: Battles

Hot off the release of their sophomore album Gloss Drop, Battles may in fact be the hottest band of 2011 (analysis based on personal opinion of Vapor’s incredibly scientific and analytical music supervisors).  Sure, we may believe that about all of our favourite artists, but this time we have proof: David featured the band’s song “Ice Cream” on The Music Super Blog back in August, which was subsequently scooped up (hah!) by EA for their trailer for FIFA 2012.  The band’s also been featured in the UK series Skins, as well as in the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

See – we told you; heading into the chilly end of 2011, Battles show no signs of cooling down any time soon.

About:
“Battles’ genre-eschewing mix of unconventional time signatures and formula-skirting songcraft should presumably exempt them from the usual pop music rules. Their accessible, danceable grooves, though, have earned them modest crossover success, thanks in part to the so-called “alternative” music press.”
– Now Magazine

Gloss Drop is the most ride-the-groove record Battles have ever made,…and considering Battles are possibly the tightest man-machine unit going now that LCD Soundsystem are dead, you can imagine how hot these grooves burn, and how meticulously they’re constructed.”
